Samuel was the son of Harrison's first wife, Eliza Ann [unknown].He was married on 17 Feb 1867 in Stark Co. IL to Anna M. PRATZ.Samuel and his family were living in Stark Co. IL at the time of the 1870 census, but by the time of the 1880 census, the family had relocated to Fremont Co. IA.They were the parents of six children: Evan/Ivan, b. Feb 1868; John, b. Mar 1869; Mary, b. Feb 1873; Bertha, b. Jul 1880; Earl, b. ca 1883; and one other as yet unknown. It appears that Samuel and his son Earl died sometime between the time of the 1895 Iowa state census and the 1900 Federal census - most likely in Locust Grove, Fremont Co. IA - where the family had been living.
John was actually Harrison's stepson, as he was the son of Harrison's second wife, the widow Mary KIGER WOODARD and her first husband.John was born in Mar 1857 - after his own father, also John WOODARD, had died. John WOODARD Jr. died in Oregon in 1934.
Harrison BRUCE and Mary KIGER WOODARD were married 5 Dec 1857 in Hamilton Co. IA and did later have a son named Ira A. BRUCE, who was born in Apr 1864.Ira married Emma Mary POPE, 13 Aug 1891 in Lancaster Co. NE and had one son named Frank H. BRUCE (1891 - 1964).Ira died Jan 1906 in Council Bluffs, Pottawattamie Co. IA, but was buried in Crete, Saline Co. NE.
