For all who might be interested I have published a Civil War work of fiction set partly in Henderson/Warren Counties where my Churchill-Worden families were from. The title is: South Under a Prairie Sky: The Journal of Nell Churchill, US Army Nurse & Scout. The story starts in 1856 with the Kansas strife, goes through the IL Lincoln elections. At the start of the war, Nell and her uncle Dr. Sylvester Churchill (my real gggfather from Kirkwood) go off to join medical teams afer Shiloh and Nell is recruited by Gen. Wm. S. Rosecrans as a scout in the fall of 1862. The homefront is set in Monmouth and the war front is mostly TN. Considerable material is taken from the Monmouth newspaper of the time and the Chicago Tribune. Other featured families are: Salter, Shook, Pence, Thompson, Moore, Morrison, Earp. Nursing accounts are based in memoirs and scout accounts on Union scout Pauline Cushman, Pinkerton Det. Hattie Lawton and female army scout records.
The book is available through www.xlibris.com/1-888-795-4274 and/or Amazon. See Amazon description for more information on the storyline.
