Re: Scott-Cowhick marriage
Sara, this too is just a hunch. I have a Wm. Scott, b. 1755 who left Wayne Co., KY shortly after the 1830 census and moved to Morgan Co., IL where he applied for a Revol. War pension application in 1832; he died there 1836. The 1830 delinquent tax list of Wayne Co. lists 4 Scott men, John, Thomas, and 2 Williams. The 2 Williams and Thomas have notations beside their names indicating that they had moved to Indiana. There was quite an exodus of people from Wayne Co. to Indiana at that time. I am confident that one of the Williams is the Wm. who moved to Morgan Co., IL and that the other Wm. is his son who moved to Bedford Co., TN. So don't think that the clerk's notations can be taken as factual.
I have never been able to identify all of the children of Wm. Scott, Sr., so I'm thinking that perhaps Thomas Scott who m. Anna Cowhick is a son of Wm. Scott, Sr. who moved to Morgan Co., IL to be close to other Scott relatives who had moved to Sangamon and Morgan Cos. ca. 1800. Can you tell me where Thomas and Anna were married? No Cowhicks in Wayne Co.
As I said, this above is just a hunch.
