PEKIN - Robert Charles Combis , 84, of 1215 South 10th St. since 1962 passed away at 6:25 p.m. Monday, April 23, 2007, at his residence.
Born Sept. 4, 1922, in Pekin to Gus N. and Mamie (Myrick) Combis , he married Mary Elizabeth Nolan on Feb. 27, 1950, in Peoria. She died April 26, 2001, in Pekin.
He also was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and three sisters.
Surviving are one sister, Ann M. Graham of Pekin; and many nieces and nephews including Nancy M. (David) Kemp of Pekin and Timothy L. Kieser of Topeka, whom he raised, and several grandnieces and grandnephews including Stephanie D. Sapp of Manito, whom he also raised. He also leaves several great-grandnieces and nephews.
He was a World War II Army veteran serving with the 25th Infantry Division in the Pacific Theater. He attained the rank of sergeant.
Bob retired from the engineering department of the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad in 1983 with 41 years of service.
His memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Gary L. Ford will officiate. Burial of cremains will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin, with military rites accorded by the United States Army and the Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team.
