After the post, I thought to add more info on this family that might help in finding them.
Highland/hilan Norris is the daughter of James H Norris and Elizabeth Trent of Mason County. James Norris and Duff Armstrong were charged with Manslaughter about 1857 and Duff had Abraham Lincoln as his lawyer and got off in the famous Almanac trial.James was not so lucky, different lawyer, and served about 6 years before pardoned through a lengthy petition of the people in Mason and Menard Counties. Sometime after he went to Joliet, Elizabeth abandoned 3 sons to family members in Mason/Menard area and took her daughter to Joliet to live with a Man named Grover Smith.About 15 years old, Highland and Grover marry in Grundy County on 16 June 1870. I sent for the license but the county lady would not say if there was a parent consent to go with it. Hilan had two daughters by Grover. They divorced before 1876.She later married Charles Irish and that ended in divorce before 1896.the name of one daughter was Cora Smith. do no know theother daughter. Hope this extra info might provide a clue.
