I have been working on a project trying to identify 12 men who signed the back of my father-in-law's boot camp photo from the Great Lakes Naval Training Station in 1942. So you can see what I'm talking about, the photo and explanation of the project are on my blog at http://afamilytapestry.blogspot.com/2012/02/about-that-listing.htmlhttp://afamilytapestry.blogspot.com/2012/02/about-that-listing.html
One of the men signed his name as D. R. Rickard of Rockford, Illinois.
I was able to find a 1930 US Census listing for a Rockford family with a son by the name of Donald R. Rickard in the household of Ray and Bessie (Crill) Rickard. I can't be sure that is the same man, but the date of birth, surname and hometown line up, so it is a possibility at least.
If anyone here is related to that family--or if anyone has access to Dec 1991 Scottsdale AZ obituaries (where he died)--could you please contact me and let me know if your Donald Ray Rickard served in the Navy during WWII?
Thanks so much for any help with this. I do want to memorialize these men who served. So far, I'm finding precious little online to recognize them for their service.
