Hey, I am currently working on a history of my Hadden family ancestry! I am a ggg grandson of Thomas Jefferson "Jeff" Hadden. Thank you for clearing up my questions about the year of his birth. He evidently lied when he enlisted in Company E 124th Indiana Infantry. He listed his age as 41, but according to Census records, he was more like 51/52, too old to have enlisted.
Elisha Hadden was a cousin of Thomas Jefferson Hadden. Elisha was a son of James and was named after his uncle, Elisha Hadden, 1827-1878, both James and Elisha being younger brothers of Thomas Jefferson Hadden.
I am a gg grandson of Jeff and Eliza Jane (Downing) Hadden's youngest son and child, Thomas Lincoln Hadden, born December 12, 1860, at Brazil, Clay Co., Indiana. He married at Brazil, in 1884, to Virginia White. Tom Hadden was a railroadman and was very active in the "United Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen", an early trainmen's union.Tom and Virginia Hadden had five children. They moved from Brazil to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1895.Thomas died in July, 1921, at Indianapolis. Virginia had to endure the great depression in her widowhood, dying on April 14, 1937. Tom and Virginia Hadden are buried at Memorial Park Cem., at Indianapolis.
I am a grt-grandson of their oldest child and daughter, Nellie Mabel Hadden, born September of 1885, at Clay City, Clay Co., Indiana, died in 1951, at Indianapolis; married June 12, 1901, at Anderson, Madison Co., Indiana, to Samuel Peck Owens, Jr. 1877-1952. (They had fifteen children!)
I am a grandson of their fourth child and oldest daughter, Lula Fern Owens, born Feb. 27, 1906, at Los Angeles Co., California, died May 20, 1985, at Indianapolis, Indiana; married, first, on Aug. 4, 1923, at Indianapolis, to Homer R. Kinsey, 1899-1954.
I am a son of their daughter and only child, Barbara Jean Kinsey, born April 17, 1926, at Indianapolis, Marion Co., Indiana. (She was the first grandchild of Nellie and Sam Owens to be born in a hospital. Family births before that were at home.)Barbara married, secondly, Jan. 30, 1954, at Indianapolis, to Richard A. Lewis, 1933-2008.
I am the only child of this marriage.
Since my great grandmother had so many children, eleven of whom grew to adulthood and have descendants, we are a very large branch of the Hadden family tree.
I am attending a Hadden family reunion in Indy in June. I have several cousins who still bear the the Hadden.
