It's odd that the ages and names differ so much but I think it may be that whoever gave the information may not have known precisly what was what or the census taker may have made a mistake.
I found this on the KY death index. You can write to a very nice woman who will make a copy of the cert. for about $3. Go to the following website and it will give you instructions on what to do. It may give the names of his parents.
