WOMAN DIES OF INJURIES
Mrs. Elizabeth C. Wheatley, who was seriously burned at her home, on the Springfield Pike a few miles from town, about 3 weeks ago, when her clothing became ignited from a open grate, died Saturday afternoon between 5pm and 6pm at Boldrick's Infirmary, where she was brought after the accident.It was realized from the time of the accident that her injuries were extremely dangerous but hope for her recovery was held until a few days before her death.She was severely burned from her waist to her knees, her hands were burned and she suffered greatly from shock.Her husband, Joseph and a young son were at the barn, some distance from the house when the tragic accident happened.However, a 13 year old daughter, Corine ran to her mother's assistance and helped extinguish the flames.Daughter of Robert Buckman, of Washington County, 38, a Catholic and a good Christian woman.Other survivors besides her husband are 1 son, R. J. Jr., 6 daughters, Corine, Louise, Marian, Helen, Catherine and Mary Lucille.Also, by her father, 2 sisters, Mrs. John Wheatley, of this county and Sister Mercedes, of Gary, Ind.Funeral services by Rev. J. A. Hogarty were held at St. Augustine Church, Tuesday morning and burial was in St. Augustine Cemetery.
