Gary:This Strother is Strother, Jr., son of my great grandfather, and brother of my still living great aunt Jerline. What I know about Jesse Thompson is that he was married around three or four times.Mary Jane (Jennie) Chapman was either a second wife and the grandmother of my Thompson line.Jesse was born abt. 1852 according to the 1860 Lawrence Co., census and the son of Jeremiah and Martha Spencer Thompson.I can't find Jesse in the 1870 census and in the 1880 census he was married to Mary Jane Chapman who was 18 at the time.I have two possible parents for Mary Jane going by the 1880 census of her age, either John and Rebecca Chapman or William and Nancy McClure Chapman.I have always leaned more toward William and Nancy since Jerline remembers McClures in the family.
Jesse's other wives were Sarah Parker m. May 31, 1889; Surilda/Sarilda Burton m. 1869 (not positive but almost on this one); and Sarah Alley/n (not sure about this one at all.)Jesse died October 6, 1927 in Lawrence Co., KY.
I'm trying to find all I can on Strother, Sr.; (which has been spelled so many ways it's frightening); Strother's wife Mary Jane Travis; Jesse Thompson; any of his wives and children and am especially interested in Mary Jane Chapman.I know that Mary Jane bought property in Little Blaine, KY from money she received from the death of her brother.I don't know which brother or anything else about it, it was all Aunt Jerline could remember. She also remembered that no one knew that her grandmother's real name was Mary Jane, not Jennie, until years after her death when the deed was found with Mary Jane on it and Strother, Sr. didn't know who she was until they checked it out.
I'm trying to get as much info together in a booklet for Aunt Jerline since she is 81 now and all of this bears on her mind quite a bit.
Are you related to these Thompsons? If so, I probably have some info you could use.
