His works were faulty in some respects.For instance,
he believed that his ancestor was Rev. War Ensign
William Bates, when actually, his ancest6or waws
Rev. War Soldier James Bates of Louisa Co., VA
DAR applications were made based upon his erroneous views.
Rev. War Solider James Bates was son of Rev. War Soldier
Reuben Bates, Senior (1731-1801) of Louisa Co., VA.
