Dear Yvonne, Thank you for responding back with that information on Charles Clay and Caroline Stover.I did look up the record as I got lucky to find. They were married in Fayette County, Virginia, (now West Virginia).I am trying to find their parents and especially working on Charles Clay.I have seen where some sources say he was from Raleigh, which is where Fayette County is, and was born in Giles County, Virginia. His father was supposed to have been John T. Clay, born on 1-13-1794, in Montgomery County, Virginia, who married Phoebe French in Giles County, Virginia on 2-25-1817.John T. Clay was supposed to be one of the sons of Mitchell Clay Jr. and Judith Clay.Do you know of any records that ties this Charles Clay to John T. Clay? This Virginia Elizabeth Clay, daughter of Charles Clay and Caroline Stover, has to be my Great Grandmother.I have some facts in front of me on certain people by themselves but never had anything to tie anyone else to everyone else. Fact #1 I do have a marriage bond that states Virginia Elizabeth Clay was born in Lawrence County, Kentucky, married to Carter Estep, from Harlan County, Kentucky, and they were married in Boyd County, Kentucky, in 1880 at the home of what looks like Lancey Stewarts. Fact #2 I have a copy of a Lawrence County, Kentucky, birth report that is listed for 1859, which was a mistake by the person who wrote it up.Not only was this person off a year on this report, but he was off a year on a few others too.The report was made for the year of 1859 and the report shoud have said 1858 on it.The report states there was a Virginia E. Clay born to the parents of Charles Clay and Caroline Stover. The report gives her date as 9-22-1859.It is to my knowledge that just because people were born back then on certain dates, doesn't mean that was when the dates were entered.Sometimes and in most cases, the birthdates was entered at a later date for many reason, and paying off the doctor for the birth was one.My Great Grandmother was born 1-22-1858, and the date was entered as 9-22-1859. Fact #3 I have seen on the Lawrence County, Kentucky, census of 1850 where there is a Charles Clay and a Caroline he is 26 and she is 21 and they are from Virginia. It lists them as having two boys both born in Virginia as well. There is a Wyatte L. Clay, he is 5 years old and there is a William R. Clay, he is 3 years old.The census was taken on 9-5-1850. Fact #4 I have seen where there is a William R. Clay who was born , 3-20-1846, and says it was Greenup, Kentucky. He was to have married an Elizabeth Nancy Stewart on 1-19-1867, in Carter County, Kentucky. It states his parents as being Charles R. Clay and Caroline Stover. Fact #5 On the marriage bond between Elizabeth Clay and Carter Estep, it shows a W.L.Clay as giving her hand in marriage, but W.L.Clay make no reference to what relation he is to Elizabeth Clay. I just want to be sure this Virginia Elizabeth Clay is my Great Grandmother as I have got a hold of some wrong information before and it turned out not to be the person I was looking for.Hopefully there are some Stewarts, Clays, or Esteps in the area who can help verify what I already have.Did you just happen to run across this information on your own Yvonne, or are you related in some way?I will make a copy of the 1860 Boyd County, Kentucky census, Thanks for your help Yvonne, sincerely, Roy.
