I think I've traced out Jared P's ancestry now. It looks like his father too was a Jared.Items are attached below.
As far as the mining incident, the best I could give you would be 2 suggestions.The first would be to find out what newspaper covered that area of Boyd County during that time frame and then see what you can find in it about the mine accident.Maybe the Boyd County Historical or Genealogical Society could help you out on this.Secondly, you could always try your luck at contacting what government office in KY had jurisdiction over mining.Try looking for something like "Bureau of Mines" or "Bureau of Mining", etc.Seems to me that there should have been some kind of annual reports done and filed with them, and such should include an annual list of fatalities.I'm not from KY, I'm in PA and I know PA operates their past mining operations along these lines.
Genealogically, Jared P lookes to be the son of Jerod/Jared/Garrad P Hughes and Jemima White, who was a son of Isreal and Permilia Hughes.
