Doreen,
Because your Father's death occurred less than 50 years ago, you will have to write to the LA. Office of Public Health to obtain his death certificate. That address is:
Vital Records Registry
Office of Public Halth
325 Loyola Ave.
New Orleans, LA 70112
The cost of a death certificate is $7 and a birth certificate is $15. A great web site for info is:www.oph.dhh.state.la.us/recordsstatistics/vitalrecords/.
Your grandfather's death certificate can be obtained from the LA. State Archives in Baton Rouge on Essen Lane.I located him in a search of Roots Web's Social Security Death Index. With the information from that search, you can send off for a copy of his social security application which may have his parents names on it.With his parents names you may be able to locate them in the LA. Censuses. You may also be able to locate them in Catholic Diocesan Records providing they were Catholic (With the last name of Guidry and being from south LA., it's quite probable that they were.).There are several sets of Catholic Diocesan Record books which can be found in most LA. libraries. You can also contact the Diocesan Office for information.
As far as your grandmother is concerned, if you know where she is buried, you can go to her grave and, hopefully, there will be some info from her grave marker that will help you.
Hope this helps and good luck with your search!
