Opdenweyer family in Louisiana

By Bertrand Macpherson June 02, 1999 at 11:15:06

Opdenweyers emigrated to Louisiana about 1840. They may have lived in Algiers. Then they surfaced in Livingston Parish around French Settlement. W.C. Opdenweyer was proprietor of the Lone Star Store after he returned from Texas in 1877. The family later lived in Ascension Parish when they owned a sawmill business over the next several decades. Several Opdenweyers are buried in Felder Cemetery, Livingston Parish. I need to know how they are related. Names associated with Opdenweyer are Bowman, Vugeley, Heaps, Erwin, Dutton and Spiller. Otto Opdenweyer was my GGF. He died in 1876 in Galveston, TX. W.C. was his brother. Need to know more about from where they came and what happened to their descendants?
