Jeri-
You may have noticed the query I placed on June 18 about where is Thompson, Maine?- that was part of my efforts in tracking down Elijah Clark- father of Susannah and Sally Clark.
In the same Pease- Thompson cemetery in Avon there are the graves of Elijah Clark- d. 12/26/1858 at age 89y 8m 10d which makes his birth year c.1769- and his wife Susannah (Thompson) Clark- d.11/6/1855 at age 78y 1m 1d which makes her birth year c.1777
In the 1850 census for Avon both Elijah and Susannah are living in Avon at age 81 and 73- he was a farmer and born in NH.there are Clark and Phillips families around them.
Following the Clark trail I printed out the 1820, 1810 and 1800 census of the Maine town he was in and ran into the Thompson Town/ Avon question. That being resolved- see message # 15991 -June 22- I found Elijah Clark's name on the 1790 index for Hollis N.H. When I tried to print out the page I don't think I found the right one- only Benj. Clark on it - but I can send it along to you. I know Elijah was born in NH in c1769 and moved to Maine by 1800( says he emig. in 1792). Several others in the town of Avon were from NH also.
The Bray family gives meaning to the saying- if I didn't have bad luck I'd have no luck at all!!!
In the 1850 census for Phillips, Franklin County- page 146-
Melzar Bray( b.c.1801)- age 49- Farmer,b. Me

In 1841 Susanna died on 3/11 at age 32- most likely in childbirth since an infant son died the same day.
Eli C b. 1851/2- also died in the terrible year of 1864 on March 2- at age 12- Melzar and Sally lost all 4 of her chilren within a 2 month period. A son by Susannah also died in Sept of 1852 and Melzar was gone in June of that same year.
