Re: Biddeford Marriage Records
Very glad to hear from you!We were only able to get little pieces of info on Edgar but enough to be pretty certain that your cousins gr grandmother and Roger’s gr grandmother were the same person! We are talking about Jeanne Longval. We found records in the St. Joseph church in Biddeford showing Marie-Jeanne Longval married Philippe Moreau dti Desourdi in 1887.Then Jeanne marries Calixte Nadeau in 1891 in the same parish. We could not find out what happened to Philippe. Then we put together a list of Jeanne and Calixte children and were surprised to find that a Clara was born to them in Dec.1892 and is listed in the directory as their third child!(Our math tells us that with these dates this is not possible)With more searching we were able to find quite a bit of information on Florida, daughter born to Jeanne and Calixte in 1893. Florida grew up to marry Placide Durand 1912 in Black Lake Quebec. Here they had two children Rene Lucien Edgar in 1913 and Juliette Jeanne in 1914. Calixte and Jeanne are listed as present at Rene’s baptism and as the Godparents of Jeanne. Edgar Moreau and Amanda Leclerc are the Godparents for young Edgar.(So you see, this is where we put 1 and 1 together and figure Edgar was son to Jeanne and Philippe.) Both little Edgar and Jeanne died as infants. We then found this Durand family in Holyoke, Mass. in 1920 census with three more children. (Very likely Edgar went with them.If he was close enough to his half sister to be named Godparent, it would be very possible). We found Florida’s death as 1976 in Los Angeles California.
Then last year we were very fortunate to have one of Florida’s grand-daughters contact us, and helped us find the death places and info on Jeanne and Calixte.Marie-Jeanne passed away while in Brimfield Mass.1923.
We would love to be able to put Edgar into the picture.Just by using our detective hats, we believe Edgar and Florida had a close relationship. In Jeanne and Calixte marriage, the daughter Clara, born in 1892, passed away in 1893. then Florida was born in 1893. (We’re assuming that Edgar was born in 1888 or 1889 making him and Florida only a 4 or 5 years apart) The next child to be born to Jeanne and Calixte died at age 9, the next one was born 1901 died in 1902, and then brother Armand was born in 1904 who lived to adulthood, but by then there was 11 years between the children.Roger’s grandfather wasn’t born until next in 1905.So it would make sense that Edgar and Florida would be close and Armand and Ralph would have grown up together.
What do you think?Do you agree with us on the relationship? We have some other info and maybe we can help each other fill in between the lines.
Glad you wrote!
