Henry C. Nichols grave can be found in Northwest side ofOakfield Cemetery in Oakfield Township, Kent County, Michigan. Yesterday at commemoration of his grave for recognition of his service in the Civil War by the Sons of Union Veterans, the Women's Relief Corps, and History Remembered. Back at the Oakfield Pioneer Heritage Society Museum library I found an index with lots more Nichols names paying taxes and voting:

The Museum is located at "11009" Podunk N. E. 3/4 mile south of M-57(Fourteen Mile Rd) and 1/2 mile west of Lincoln Lake Rd. There is no mail box. The museum will be open this afternoon (September 25, 2012) from 2 to 4pm. There will be a meeting the third Thursday of October.
Henry C. Nichols enlisted at Oakfield 13 August 1862. He was a corporal in Company F Michigan 21 Infantry. He was taken prisoner and held a Nolensville Prison (31 December 1862) in Tennessee until he was released in a prisoner exchanged. He was discharged for disability on 28 March 1863 at Detroit.
