Immigration records were only kept at the port of Entry.From Canada to Michigan it would have been at the port of Detroit; I don't know if they would have crossed the border at Port Huron or if they did if any records were kept.

Vital records were kept at the County Courthouse in the city of Lapeer, Lapeer County, Michigan.I usually use FAMILYSEARCH.ORG to search on-line for the state of Michigan.
