Sister Marguerite Miessen, O.P. Obit
ADRIAN — Sister Mary Bernard Miessen, formerly known as Marguerite Miessen, died on March 17, 2008, at St. Joseph Residence in Seattle, Wash. She was 90 years of age and in the 72nd year of her religious profession: 67 years in the Dominican Sisters of Edmonds and five years in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.
Sister was born in Chelan, Wash., to Jerry and Gertrude (Reznicek) Miessen. Sister graduated from Holy Angels Academy in Seattle, Wash., and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from Holy Names College in Seattle, Wash. She did post graduate work in Religious Studies at Seattle University.
Sister Mary Bernard spent 30 years ministering in education in Everett, Seattle, Aberdeen, Hoquiam and Bremerton, Washi. She coordinated Religious Education Programs for 15 years in the Archdiocese of Seattle. Sister spent 20 years in Pastoral Ministry in Oak Harbor, Coupeville, Tacoma, Seattle, and Townsend, Wash. In 1993, Sister became a resident of Assumption Convent, and in 2006 a resident of St. Joseph Residence in Seattle, Wash.
Sister is survived by one brother, A. J. Miessen of Northport, Fla.
A Vigil Service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at Assumption Convent in Seattle, Wash. The Funeral Liturgy will be offered at St. Joseph Residence in Seattle at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2008. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Seattle, Wash. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Hoffner, Fisher & Harvey Funeral Home of Seattle, Wash.
