McCulloch in Big River, Jefferson County, MO
I am trying to find the parents of James R. McCulloch who md. Mary Lee in Jefferson Co., MO in 1854.This couple lived in Big River township. We know that James R. McCulloch was born about 1830 in MO.We know, from probate records, that there was a Hugh McCulloch who md. Esther, and a James McCulloch who md. Charlotte. These couples lived in Big River twp., and were both of an age to have been James R. McCulloch's grandparents.
There is a James McCulloch on page 102 of the 1840 Big River census. He has a young son, who may be James R. Is this him?
The other McCullochs listed in 1840 were Charlotte (Mrs. James) and her son James ( and wife Lucy Baker) on page 104. James and Lucy had two daughters, Elizabeth and Charlotte, and, I am told, sons named James O. (born abt 1838)and William Allen. This rules them out as parents of James R. born about 1830.
But who was the James on page 102?Could he be the father of James R.?He is 30-40 years old.Others listed in his household are one boy under five, two girls under five, two girls 5-10 and one adult female 30-40. Can anyone name these children?I am wondering if the boy was listed in the wrong age group.Could he be James R.?
Was James, age 30-40 in 1840, the James who md. Catherine Brown in 1830? I suspect he was. Was he the son of Robert and Mary, and therefore the grandson of Hugh and Esther? Maybe so.
I need more than theories here. I would appreciate hearing from someone who can help. Email me at:firstname.lastname@example.org/Thanks!
