Parley Gates, Irvilla Gates, Thomas Jefferson Wheeler
I'm still trying to prove whether Parley W.C. Gates was the father of my gr-gr-grandmother, Irvilla Gates. And, trying to find the true parents of Parley W. C. Gates. He was adopted at age 14 by Parley Gates and wife, Orpha and at that time his surname was changed from Clark to Gates. I strongly suspect his given name was changed to Parley at that time. We have the older Parley's will, which states that Parley W. C. was a Clark and was Parley's adopted son.
On one of the Livingston County websites, there are cemetery listings that lists the graves of Parley, a daughter, a son-in-law, a granddaughter and I believe his wife, too. I have these postings which I believe originally were those of Daughters of the American Revolution. Then the gravestones were read by the genealogy members of the website for Livingston County.
My computer messed up badly and I lost much of my family tree, so I have to dig into large files to find info that was in the family tree.
I would greatly appreciate any information that might be found on Parley and the others mentioned in my post on the Forum. We have land records for Parley in Oakland County, history that lists him in various local government activities such as supervisor, delegate to constitutional convention, census, etc. From these, it looks like he spent most of his life after about 1830 or 1834 in Oakland County and before that in Ontario County, New York. I believe he lived in Livingston County when he died, just a few miles from Livingston County Line.
And looking for Thomas Jefferson Wheeler's parents, who may have been Jonas Wheeler & Jane Coburn.
Any help you might be able to provide will be most appreciated.
