Ephriam ANDERSON in NC and IN
I am looking for information on the family of Ephraim ANDERSON.According to Indiana census records, he was born about 1793 in North Carolina.I have no information on potential parents. Also, I’m not sure which county he was born in, but Wilkes County lists an Ephraim Anderson in the 1820 census. However, that Ephraim appears to have been a single man.I skimmed the on-line NC marriage records for various counties and had no luck finding an Ephraim Anderson, but there are a couple of counties not yet on-line.
Our Ephraim Anderson married Elizabeth (unknown last name).According to the 1850 census, Elizabeth was born about 1788 in North Carolina. She appears to have died some time after 1850 in Indiana.Elizabeth and Ephraim had the following children, all apparently born in North Carolina between 1817 and 1828:Lucretia (1817 -- ?), John (1821-1892), Elza (1824-1897), Jacob (1825 --?), and Hugh (1828-1904).I am a descendant of Hugh.
They migrated to Indiana from North Carolina about 1829, when Hugh was a year old.Given the age spread between the first and other children plus Elizabeth’s age, I am not sure if this was her first marriage and if Lucretia is Ephraim’s natural born child.
According to the “History of Henry County,” Ephraim was an early member of the McDonald Methodist Episcopal Church in Henry County, Indiana, which was established in 1835.Other early members were Hugh MCDONALD, Wiley BALLARD, WOODSIDE, William WOOLEN, David TEMPLETON, Jonas MOSS, John BLACK, William SHELLY, George ADKINSON, William DAVIS, Samuel LOW, James SMITH, John WELSH, and their wives.I am hoping that some of these members might have migrated from the same area of North Carolina and provide a clue as to Ephraim's county of origin and his parentage.
