Person County History and the 1820 census
Looking for someone knowledgeable on Person county history around 1820 or someone who can point me in the right direction for researching my question.
Looking at the 1820 Person County census, I find a lot of women listed as Mrs. "surname" with young children or no children. I am trying to research, mostly online because I work and am in Tennessee, what was happening around that period in history in that region.
Why would so many women be listed as heads of households?
Thanks for any help or suggestions.
