Re: William C Hennessy, b. 1889 in MI, lived ND, died WY
I did have the information on William's burial/headstone and have looked through every scrap I have for his middle name.Nothing.Might be that it was "Coon" after his mother?
This man is in my husband's family.Husband's sister was certain (before I found otherwise) that William's name had been Jack and he was directly from Ireland...so much for accurate family information.
William's death certificate, which has the same birth date as the cemetery/headstone date, gives his father as George Hennessy, mother as (?) Coon; their birthplaces, unknown; his birthplace, Michigan;reason for death Splenic Leukemia; burial Mt Hope Cemetery (now Sheridan Municiple). There is a brief obituary from the local news which gives no family information at all.
I also have (though without proof beyond the fact that they fit the death certificate information so well, that George Hennessy and Ada Coon of Paw Paw, MI seem likely to be William's parents), the marriage of George Hennessy and Adaa Coon on 15 Apr 1877 in Lawton, MI; the birth/death of a child (2 Mar 1878/17 Apr 1878), the 1880 census showing George and Ada living in Paw Paw, next door to George's mother, Mary Hennessy; George's death on 26 Dec 1894.
Several other children of George and Ada Hennessy were located by researchers at the Van Buren District Library. They are:
Jennie, b. 19 Aug 1881.
Cora, b. 12 Apr 1889 - this one makes Wm's birth on 13 Oct of the same year quite impossible.
Helen, b. 3 July, 1894
In re: William's birthdate, I question how careful people were of these dates. It seems so odd that his birth would not be recorded when these others were...am I barking up the wrong tree?
