Wow, and I thought my family lines were hard to track down. Now I don't feel so bad! Can't help very much but did notice that they show up in the 1860 census of Centre Twp Cedar Co Iowa where daughter Lilly was listed as 2 yrs old. So we know they didn't get to Nebraska till after 20th June 1860.
Interestingly I found them in the 1900 census of Fairfield City, Clay Co Nebraska under the spelling Laughead.
The only info it provides in that census is that James' father was born PA and his mother born VA. And that they had 11 children and 8 lived.
Anyhow, since James was 76 yrs old during 1900 census it is likely that he died at that location. See if you can find some kind soul in Fairfield City Clay Co NE forum to do cemetery check for you.Happy hunting.Sheri in OH
