Re: Elisha S. Gibson 1832-1909
Following up on my own post just in case others find it:
Elisha Scogin Gibson was born in either Hamilton County, OH or Dearborn County, IN -- still do not know which, but his parents were living in Hamilton County, OH in 1830, according to the US Census.
Did finally get confirmation that David Gibson (b. ca 1802 d. 1864) was his father.Marriage records from the IN and OH area which the Gibsons were living in the 1820's are hard to come by, but through the best records available have found that Mariah Scogin Gibson (ca. 1810 - 1832) was most likely Elisha's mother.Elisha was born in February of 1832 and Mariah died in September of that same year.
David remarried to Mercy Allee and moved to Tazewell County, IL (not Washington County as listed in Elisha's obituary). They did settle near the town of Washington in Washington township of Tazewell County.
Elisha had quite a few step-siblings - of which F.B. Gibson, Rhoda Gibson, Laura Gibson, and David A. Gibson did survive to adulthood.
Have verified that Elisha and family moved to Nuckolls County, NE in 1878, and Elisha was a well-known member of the community, having been an elder of the Ruskin Presbyterian Church and also a member of the masons, to name just two associations (there were others).
Elisha is laid to rest in the cemetery south of Ruskin (Spring Creek).Would like to hear from any descendants of Elisha or David Gibson to make certain we have all our facts in order in the family history.
