On behalf of the Pierce (Nebraska) Lied Public Library Genealogy Group we have located some information on you request.
According to the 1880 Cenus - The Freeman family were residents in Township 26 Range 2 West Pierce County, Nebraska. This would be in an area surrounding the village of Pierce. There were many railroad employees included in the census at that time; H. J. Freeman's occupation is listed as railroad grader. The Fremont Elkhorn & Missouri Valley Railroad built a line to Pierce from Norfolk Nebraska in 1879 and extended the line to Plainview in 1880.Later the line was extended to Niobrara Nebraska and then onward to Winner South Dakota. The Pierce depot was built in 1880.Therefore you could almost assume that the workers followed the building of the railroad. At this time we cannot find any additional information on the Freeman family.
There is an interesting Nebraska railroad site to check out on Rootsweb.
