PUTERBAUGH: Viletta (Taylor) & Abraham
I am desperately seeking information regarding my gg grandmother Viletta (Taylor) Puterbaugh. Her name may be listed Violetta, and the surname is found spelled so many different ways; i.e. Peuterbaugh, Peterbough, Puterbough, Putterbaugh, Butterbaugh, etc., which has created many problems in researching.
Viletta was the daughter of Martha and James T. Taylor, both born in England, but had immigrated to Ontario, CAN.
I found Viletta & family in 1851 Canada West census, and then 1860 Lee County, Illinois. She married Abraham Charles Puterbaugh in Lee County, IL in 1869, although I can't find her in 1870 census. It's confusing, because I found Abraham still listed that year with his parents as if he were still single.
Viletta & Abram. had two daughters, Mary Melissa (b. Valpraiso, Saunders Co., NE in 1871) & my g grandma, Martha "Anna" (b. Valpraiso in 1873).By 1876 Abraham had married 2nd to Mary Voltmer(Mrs John Grum), so Viletta must have died sometime between Annie's birth in 1873 and the 1876 mrg.
I believe she likely died while they were still in Saunders County (possibly during child birth), but I haven't been able to find the cemetery she was buried.
Any assistance in my search for Viletta would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, kim
