Re: Robt Hurst/Hurst/Fairbairn
Thanks for your interest. Most certainly, Christiana Fairbairn the daughter of Robert Milne and Helen Milne was my gr gr grandmother.Robert and Helen were married in Saint Cutherberts Church Edinburgh Midlothian Scotland.Christiana was born in Scotland October 13, 1831.There are conflicting dates as to the year of Christiana's death 1895 and 1897.Helen Milne was the daughter of a Peter Milne, and her mother either an Elspeth or Elizabeth Clyne.Christiana's brothers Thomas who married Mary Middlemiss; Peter remained a bachelor; Robert circa 1829-1840; and John married a Miss McDonald were all born in Scotland, George who married Jane McDowellwas born in Maidstone.Christiana married Nicholas b. circa 1832.Nicholas died at a young age 36 years old in Brewerton New York he was an ordained minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church.Christiana returned to Canada four years later.Their daughter Mary Ann Hurst Copeland was my gr grandmother, other children were Robert Fairbairn Hurst who married Jeanetta Wylie, Thomas Hurst who married Margaret O'Neill, George Hurst who married first Emma Helphry and then Maud Sanford, Margaret Hurst who married John Thomas Shuttleworth, Ellen Hurst who married Henry Watson, and Christiana Fairbairn Hurst who married James Quick. My maternal grandmother Janet Helen Copeland was the daughter of Mary Ann Hurst and John Wesley Copeland - their children were Erma Janetta who married Clifford Collier, Bernice Mildren who married Thomas Roberts, Vernon married twice, first to a Florence ???, then Amelia ??? I don't know why a memory block over Uncle Vern's wives, John who married first Daisy Gough, and Irene Ethier, George Alfred who married Irene Lyons died in Dieppe, Margaret who married James Grier, Evelyn who married first Kenneth Clark and then Leslie Allan, Grace who married John Gibson, and my mother Mary Elizabeth who married Scottish immigrant Alex Niven.Three children died in infancy - Earl, Thomas and Clarice. The first five - Earl, Erma, Bernice, Vern and Mary were all born in Michigan and they came back to Canada in 1911 - went west until 1923, and my grandmother Janet (Jenny) died February 1924 at 38 years of age.My parents Alec and Mary had six children - Robert (deceased), Isabel (deceased), Violet (Hecnar), myself Norma Chantler, Marigold Nehr, and Alexander Terance Niven. Now - I just bet you didn't expect this not an earful nor a mouthful - but and eyeful. By the way many, many of of my ancestors are up on the wall in the Kildare House on the corner of Wyandotte and Kildare Road here in Windsor - Christiana's daughter Mary Ann on her wedding day to John Copeland - and her daughter Janet Helen Copeland who married Thomas Dixon my grandfather.Slainte!!! and God bless.
