The New York--Vermont Connection
Please bear in mind that a person could be born in New York State and subsequently live and die in Vermont without ever moving even a step.
That's because Cumberland and Gloucester Counties are transferred from New York to Vermont in 1790 in settlement of the New Hampshire land-grant controversy.(Cumberland is created out of Albany County in 1766 and Gloucester is created out of Albany County in 1770.)
These two counties, plus part of Washington County (originally named Charlotte County and created out of Albany County in 1772), subsequently became allor part of the following Vermont Counties:Chittenden, Rutland, Franklin, Benington, etc., etc.
