Dietenhoefer/Schellhorn: New York 1850-1900

By Sharon Schwarz July 21, 2003 at 06:11:13

I am trying to find information about my great-grandparents.
Louis Schellhorn (assorted spellings: Shellhorn, Shelhorn, Schelhorn) was born in Germany or France around 1848. He was the son of Jacob Schellhorn and Caroline Seitz.
Louis immigrated to the US around 1850-1860. He married Emma Dietenhoefer (assorted spellings: Dietenhoffer, Dittenhoefer, Dittenhofer, etc) at the Madison Street German Presbyterian Church in New York City, NY in 1871. Louis and Emma resided in NYC living in the Lower East Side (Pitt St, Rivington, E. Houston, Willet, Columbia and Goerck).
They had 6 children (Margaret, Edward, Jacob, Lillian, Louise and Louis). There may have been other children that I am not aware of.
Louis Schellhorn died in1898 in NYC, and Emma Dietenhoefer Schellorn died in 1934 in Brooklyn, NY.

Emma Dietenhoefer's parents were George Dietenhoefer and Louisa Wattley (Wottle). Emma was born approx 1851 in NYC. Her parents had 4 children that I know of: Emma, Louis Dietenhoefer, Frederick Dietenhoefer and Caroline Dietenhoefer all born in NYC between 1845-1860.

If anyone has any information or can connect to the above family, please contact me. Thank you.
