My grandmother was an Ennis. Her father was Homer T. Ennis who according to a census, was born in Ohio in 1847. He was a wainwright, and perhaps his father, William also. He told of swimming in the Erie Canal as a boy and lived in the Palmyra area of New York. His family was in the 1855 NY census, but not the 1860 US census. His wife was Mary Alma (Almarine or Elmira) Corset, born 1851 in Barry Co., MI. They moved west to Nebraska, where my grandmother was born in 1880 in a sod house. Then they moved to Michigan, where 2 of his sisters lived with their husbands. One sister was Cora Belle Ennis Cole (wife of Elmer T.) listed in 1880 census in Woodland Twp., Barry Co., MI. After years of bad farming in MI, he moved to Breesport, Chemung Co. in 1918 with his wife, one of his daughters--my grandmother--and her family. We are unable to find which William was his father--every generation of Ennis' has one. This William was married to Mary Kelly from Steuben Co., NY.
