seeking women with Union veteran ancestry
I am seeking women who have either direct or collateral (i.e. blood-related uncel) ancestors who served in the federal forces of the Union in the Civil War (1861-1865).You are invited to join THE OLDEST WOMEN'S HEREDITARY SOCIETY IN THE U.S. (even older than the D.A.R.) called the Ladies of the Grand Army of the Republic (L.G.A.R.).Membership is open to women 10 or older.Applicants must document their relationship to a Union veteran and his service. The application fee is a one-time $10 fee plus annual dues of $15 per year.
The L.G.A.R. was formed in 1881 as an auxiliary to the Grand Army of the Republic, the largest Union veterans' organization after the Civil War.It is chartered by act of the U.S. Congress.Local chapters are called "circles."
I am also looking for interested women wanting to form circles of their own.It takes 10 women to form one.
For application forms, e-mail me and give me your snail-mail address to where applications may be mailed to you.
