John Adams, VA & OH, late 1700s-early 1800s

Hello.I am looking for information on my GGGGF John Adams of Virginia and Clark County, Ohio.I know little about him, partially as a result of his common name and the challenge of dealing with a name shared by a President of the United States.“My” John Adams was born in Virginia and probably in the period 1780-1795.He appears to have migrated to Clark County, Ohio, in the period 1811-1815 where he probably lived until his death, perhaps between 1840 and 1850.Information on his wife or marriage is unknown, though one child, Caroline, reported in the 1880 Census that her mother was born in Tennessee.

Fairly reliable records show that John fathered at least 6 children:William (said to be living in California in the early 1890s); David (prob. in Clark Co. in 1840; also in Cal. In 1890s); Wilson; Elizabeth, my GGGM (15 Mar 1812-4 Oct 1849; mar. Samuel Albin, 1809-1865, lived in Clark County);Caroline (22 Aug 1817, OH-26 Aug 1896; mar. Thomas Albin, 1815-1885; lived in Clark Co.); and Lavina (born ca. 1815; apparently died unmarried after 1860).

Based upon the migration of the Albin Family and other interrelated families to Clark County, John may have lived in (or been born in) Monongalia/Harrison County, (West) Virginia, and he or his parents may have arrived there from Frederick or Loudoun County, Virginia.The name John Adams canbe found in census or tax lists in Loudoun and Frederick Counties and in Clark, but it is not possible to determine whether any of them pertain to the John Adams of this inquiry.Absent a family Bible or a genealogy prepared by one his descendants, it may not be possible to separate out this John Adams from the many contemporary men who shared his name.Any information, clues, or suggestions will be most welcome.Thank you.
