Myers Family of Columbiana Co., Ohio
Benjamin Paul Myers is my 4th great grandfather. He was born 24 MAY 1806 in Loudoun Co., Virginia to unknown parentage. On 12 NOV 1832, Benjamin married Rachel Ehrhart in Columbiana County, Ohio. Benjamin and his immediate family left Columbiana Co., Ohio in the 1840s and settled in Jefferson, Township, Jay County, Indiana. Benjamin was involved in agriculture, owning and farming land and raising livestock in Jay County most of his life. Benjamin and Rachel are the parents of David William (my ancestor), James, Bushrod, Amanda, Sarah Jane, Elizabeth, Jacob, Timothy, Catherine and Margaret. On 24 FEB 1873, Benjamin passed away in Jay County, Indiana. He was laid to rest with Rachel, his wife at Finch Cemetery in Jefferson, Township, Jay County, Indiana. To my knowledge, Benjamin was not affiliated with any particular religious denomination, although he was a Protestant Christian in Faith. His wife, Rachel was brought up as a Lutheran, as her parents, David and Catherine (Rupert) Ehrhart are buried at a old Lutheran Cemetery in Jay County.
It has been indicated by some genealogists, that Benjamin’s parents are possibly William and Anna (Nixon) Myers of Virginia. Both of these individuals were from the Loudoun Co., Virginia area and were affiliated with the Quaker Church. I am still trying to uncover more definitive proof of this connection.
Lately, I have been learning more about the David and Catherine (Turnipseed) Myers family, who settled in Columbiana Co., Ohio from Loudoun Co., Virginia. It is believed that this couple had a son, Benjamin, born circa 1813. I have been unsuccessful at locating additional information about this specific Benjamin. In addition to Benjamin, it is believed that David and Catherine are the parents of Catherine, Susannah, Magdalena and William. David passed away in 1826 at North Lima, Columbiana Co., Ohio. Catherine, his wife, passed away on June 3, 1857 in Columbiana Co., Ohio. David and Catherine were affiliated with the Lutheran Church, which was the denomination that Catherine was brought up in. It is believed that David was initially affiliated as a Quaker, but ultimately left the denomination when he married “out of the Faith” to the Lutheran, Catherine Turnipseed.
I would like to gain more insight on Benjamin Paul Myers, and perhaps being the son or not of the aforementioned, David and Catherine (Turnipseed) Myers. Does anyone have any information on David & Catherine’s will/probate information from Columbiana Co., Ohio? Please provide any input!
