Thanks so much for your very helpful answer.I had neglected these Newberry Monthly minutes and they answer several of my questions. Then, when I again reviewed the Clear Creek minutes the whole picture came together including proof that Jesse Johnson was one of William and Polly (Watkins) Johnson's sons.It now appears that their two eldest sons were probably not mentioned in these records because they had never been Quakers.William and Polly were disowned in the Virginia Clear Creek meeting when they married in 1795 and did not officially return to the Quaker faith until 1817 in the Ohio Clear Creek Meeting. At that time the Va meeting took up the request to reinstate them at the request of the Friends in Ohio so that they could be officially received in Ohio.Proving Jesse as their son brings me closer to proving that Watkins is a son.The two men married McCoy sisters. The absense of proven son Benjamin in the Quaker records is not surprising as he was the next oldest to Watkins himself.Eventually I think I will find documentary proof that Watkins is Wm and Polly's son, but this brings me closer thanks to your help.Perhaps Clinton County records will include some estate papers for William or Polly Johnson?

The other Watkins Johnson you mentioned was 4 years younger than the one I am researching. His birth is in South River MM in Virginia.
