Here is some more information. James Smith died in the 1860's, I have his will written 8 March 1864 which he left everything to his adoptive son John W Smith and his wife Susan Smith. John W eventually took Susan with him to Hocking county. In the 1880's census you can find her in Laural Township, Hocking county age 62,living with John W.Smith. Susan died 8 Jan 1896.Susan married James Smith 24 Sept. 1851 York, Athens county. His previous wife was Sarah Burr.Susannah's name is spelled Welds on the marriage certificate but I think it was a mistake. On John W Smith's death certificate in 1937 he lists his parents as Susannah Woods and James Smith. In 1872 Ephriam Woods was appointed as legal guardian of John Smith during the selling of his land in Athens county.John was only 16.I have lots of legal papers with Ephriam's name everywhere. In the 1870 Census Athens county , Trimble Township there is a Elizabeth Woods 82 and living with her is Susan Smith age 29. This is the same area where James and Susan Smith'sfarm was located. Could Elizabeth Woods mother of Ephriam been living with Susan Woods Smith? What is so confusing is in 1870 Susan is 29 and in 1880 62. Maybe these are two different people...Joyce
