William C. White in Pike Co. Ohio in 1882
I'm looking for information on William C White who married Hannah Gillenwater in Pike County, Ohio in 1882. They had one daughter, Anna Cluster White shortly after.
Court records show that they applied for divorce in 1890's, but it was dismissed. (Hannah later married Hiram Blakeman, even without court divorce approval)
On Anna's cemetery records, her father is listed as Giles White. Our family does not know where the name Giles came from, and it is possible William C White was actually William G White. (however I've seen the records and it looks like a C)
Court records show that they were married in Pike County Oct 7 1882 and Anna was born Dec 14 1882 (birth date according to cemetery records; no birth records in Pike County for Anna). Hannah brought a 'bastardly' charge against William, which was dismissed since they were married. This leads me to believe that he claimed that Anna wasn't his daughter and was going to leave and not support the family. He must have had reason to think that Hannah was unfaithful, and one thoery goes that she slept with a brother named Giles; but there are no records to show that Giles existed.
The unfaithfulnes charge is believeable since Hannah left her second husband and this marriage was granted divorce on grounds of proven adultery.
Anna was listed in Pike County on census records in 1900, but was married in Indianapolis, IN (Marion County) in 1902 then settling in Cincinnati OH immediately following. It is also thought that there were members of the White family that lived in Indy hence the marriage location.
Any info would be appreciated!
