Thomas Butt (1778-1848) MD/OH/IN
My g-g-grandfather was Thomas Butt born 1778 in Maryland. His first born son was named Samuel, born in Maryland c.1809. His second son was named George Butt, born in Maryland c. 1810. Thomas moved to Shelby County, OH in 1815. His third son was named Jacob Butt born in Shelby County, OH. George Butt married Lucinda Mann, daughter of Isaac Mann. George and Samuel founded the Oran Christian Church in Oran, OH.
Family legend says that Thomas' first wife was a widow by the name Jerome. However, it appears that Thomas Butt married Barbara Shuck in Washington County, MD in 1805.I don't know whether Barbara Shuck is the widow Jerome.
In the mid-1830s, Thomas married Elizabeth Surface (or Seerfaus) and moved to Randolph Co., IN. He died there in 1848.
I have been working for ten years to determine the father of Thomas Butt. But, to date, have been unsuccessful. I know that Thomas Butt was of English descent, as opposed to German or other, based upon his will wherein he stated that his children should be given a "proper English education."
Any information regarding this family would be greatly appreciated.
