Charles,
This is my McClarran/McClarren connection in PA.
My great grandmother had two uncles, Hugh and John, and
John spelled his last name McClarran in a letter (1877)
and wrote "Indiana" next to the date, which I'm virtually
certain refers to Indiana County, PA. If so, he is listed
in the 1880 Census (spelled "McLarran") with his family as living in West Indiana
in Indiana County. One of his sons was a
Charles McLarran. Nearby, in Kittanning in Armstrong County,
PA is a Hugh McClarren listed in the 1880 Census. I believe
this is John's brother even though their surnames are spelt
differently in the census.
If you don't already have this information, you can see the 1880 Census on LDS.ORG.
My great grandmother was from Donegal but her uncles may not
have been. Possibly from County Tyrone.
I know there's a town out in Western PA called McClarran.
Do you know anything about its origins?
If you suspect that my McClarrans may have some connection
with yours, I would welcome hearing back from you.
Take care. John Murray
