Hi Ola, I found your family in a book I got many years ago from the National Genealogical society # 26.1800 Census of Pendelton District, SC. I think it is by Carleton E. Fisher.
Col. Kilpatrick's Regimen (Oconee Co.) On pg. 54 # 500 list a William Cunningham00100-10100-00The comentary reads:
Probably of a southside VA family that moved to the area of Surry/Wilkes/Rockingham counties in NC, the family reached Pendelton and Abbeville Districts by 1790.James Cummingham owned land on Brush Creek, granted 23 April 1789 to Thomas Lofton, which James sold to Wm. Copeland 15 Sept. 1794. Elias Cunningham. b. in SC in 1811, had moved to Alabama by 16 Nov 1836, when he entered land in Walker Co.Next door to him 1850 was John Cunningham, b. in Seneca (Oconee
Co.SC in 1827, who married Margaret, dtr of David Leonard of Walker
Co. Doubtless related was another close neighbor, Bales Cunningham, b. SC in 1823. William Carter Cunningham, b. in Anderson Co. SC, 12 June 1842, enlisted in the Confererate army in Walker Co. I do not know if the book is still in print but it was very reasonable. Good Luck!!
