Jan, It is nice to hear from a Willis cousin. The DAR Libray in DC has The Bible Record of Richard Willis and Drucilla. The name Pearson came from this source. In this record she is called Drucilla Pearson. It is my belief that Pearson is her middle name and I believe that there is a connection to Pearson in VA. Right now I can't put my hands on this source and the mind is "foggy" but there is a connection.
For example we have a great, great, great grandmother whose tombstone says "Polly Musgrove Hines".So everyone said that her maiden name was Musgrove but it was not. After much searching it was discovered that her father was George Berry and he married FIRST a Mary Musgrove.Mary died young [possibly in childbirth] and George married second an Edith Ligon. Edith's first child, a daughter, was named for George's deceased first wife, Mary Musgrove.I don't think that this would happened today but it happened in the 1700's. Her maiden name was Berry not Musgorve.
Today, when a woman marries she looses her middle name and takes on her maiden name as her middle name but that was not true in the 1700's.
We descend from Elizabeth Willis that married Holman Smith.
If I can answer further, please let me know.Wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Helen
