The marriage bond of Robert Travis and Freehold, NY Phoebe L'Estrange was dated Oct. 24,1761 in and both gave Freehold as their address. How long they may have lived there is not known, but later they lived in Bond's Settlement in Harford Co., Maryland and most, if not all, their children were born there. It was about 20 miles north of Baltimore. Robert and Phoebe's daughter Deborah Travis married Jacob Stansbury Rohr at Taylor's Chapel near Baltimore. This chapel originally was a Quaker institution but became Methodist (author said) which ties in with the impression that Robert may have been Quaker in his early years. In 1789 Robert's family moved to Rockingham Co., VA. In 1802 Robert and Phoebe moved to South Carolina to be near their daughter Mary who had married Dr. John Walsh. (The author had discovered only one sibling for Robert, a brother named Thomas. There may be others. He ended up in Fentress Co., TN and died there in 1837 at the age of 100.) Children of Robert and Phoebe Travis were (birth orders not known) John Travis Elizabeth Travis Mary Travis Thomas Travis Grace Travis Philip Travis Deborah Travis Robert Travis Jr. William Travis Catherine Travis Joseph Travis (became a minister and lived in S.C.) (3 more children who presumably died young). This particular Philip Travis married Elizabeth Stonebraker on May 15, 1797 The author states this line has not been found.
