This is the story I have been told. The family of Traylors, from SC, settled in Simpson Co, Ms.One night, Indians raided the cabin. Two children, a boy and girl, were sent into the woods to hide. All others were killed.Three days later, a man named WHite found these two children, half dead from starvation and exposure.Unable to find family, he took the children in and raised them and they took the name White.
No idea of the dates. No idea of any names, except the little girl may have been named Sarah. The name James also is reported, but it is unclear if that was the boy's name or if that was the name of the White.(James WHite, age 25, appears on 1850 Simpson Co census with 3 children:Barbara Jane, Leonard and Lavisa.)
The Simpson Co courthouse burned several times and there are no available records of any adoptions.Census records show Matthew, Nathan, and John Traylor, 1830, but not in 1840.??Did they move on or were they all killed?
James White reported on the 1880 and 1900 census that both his parents were b in MS.If he was the boy of the story, then the Traylors were in MS Terrority by at least 1800.
Does anyone have a family with unknownmembers that might fit the 1800 time frame?I appreciate any help anyone can give.My efforts to discover the truth of who my family really is has been a solid wall of no information.Leonard L. WHite, b 1846, was my gt grandfather.Of that, there is no doubt.WHo was his father?James WHite?Or??
