Shirley, The Kleckley/Cleckely family is one of the earliest families to settle Lexington County South Carolina. Many of them settled along the Saluda River downstream from the Lake Murray Dam.Most of the old family land is along Corley Mill Road outside of Lexington SC.The Kleckley family was one of the original families of Zion Lutheran Church on Corley Mill Road. This Church was the first Lutheran Church to be organized in the Midlands of South Carolina around 1780.
I am a native of Lexington, SC; currently residing in Goose Creek, SC.My Grandmother on my Mother's side was a Kleckley. Her father was Jacob Wesley Kleckley who fought in the Civil War.I have been searching for his Civil war regiment. This is how I found your inquiry.
I am afraid I can't offer much help at this time, but I will be in contact with someone who might be able to help you.I will be back in touch with you even though it might be the end of next week before I can contact you.I will be at Zion Lutheran Church to help plan a Via De Christo Retreat next weekend. If you can give me a name I will be glad tocheck the cemetary for a marker. Many of Zion's Graves are at the Church's original location along the river. The present Church was moved to higher ground in 1922. I hope I have given you some information and maybe I can help after all. Ron Redd
