Thomas Worthey was the son of Richard Worthey/Worthy of Union Co., SC.I have been unable to find Richard in the Union Co. 1850 census, he possibly served in the Mexican War during that time.He is listed in the 1860 Union Co. census with wife Nancy, daughters Cynthia & Martha, and a son named John.In 1870 Union Co. his family consisted of wife Nancy, children Cynthia, Martha, John, Aurie (female), Thomas, Louisa, and Nancy. In 1880 Union Co. his wife has apparently died. The only children living with him at that time were Thomas, Nancy, and Rebecca.
Sometime before 1890 Richard moved into Madison Co., Al.His death is recorded in Madison Co. in March 1889.Apparently, Thomas came to Madison Co. with his father along with two sisters, Cynthia and Martha. According to Thomas's obituary the rest of the children remained in SC.
I have been unable to determine Richard's father but his siblings (according to Union Co. census records) were probably Fereby b. ca 1800, George b. ca 1804, James b. ca 1811, William b. ca 1813, and Daniel b. ca 1815.Richard was born ca 1820.
I have a great deal of information on early Worthy families but to date have been unable to positively tie Richard to any of them.Let's trade info!!
