William Gregg was born about 1745 and died Nov. 10, 1816 maybe in Newberry co. S.C. His wifes name was Jane. They had a daughter named Mary that married Samuel McCalla. Samuel came to the U.S. from Ireland because of an uprising where he was captured at Vinegar hill. He was staying with William and family in Newberry co.Mary and her son son, Robert McCalla, came over in 1817. Samuel died and was buried at Cannons Creek. Mary married Samuel Spence, who had been living with the William Gregg family too. If I am right this William Gregg was my 4th great-grandfather. He had a son named John who may have been born abt.1785 or 90. I believe John also had children named Elizabeth, Eliza, Nancy, William and Joseph. This family was in Newberry co. and Fairfield co. and moved to Ga. and to Lincoln co. Tn then Shelby co. Tn. Robert McCalla moved with them and married Nancy Gregg. Several of the Gregg family members are buried in Tipton co. and Shelby co. Tn. They changed the spelling of their name to Gragg. My 2nd great-grandfather was born in 1816 in S.C. and died 1891. He married Martha Jane Reid in Lincoln co. in 1842. The Reid family was from S.C. too. Martha Janes parents were David and Susannah Hamilton Reid. Does anyone have any information on this family? They are mentioned in the book The Annals of Newberry.
