It probably wouldn't do you any good, as far as the spelling is concerned. My grandfather was born in lower SC, his name then was Howell H. Sheppard. And when he came to NC and married my grandmother, it was still the same. But after that, it became "Harold" H. Sheppard. On everything. They (family in NC) all tell me that it's really Harold, and Howell was just the way it was pronounced in SC, because they talk with an accent. Oh bro-ther!!!
