James Patrick (1688-1741) Calhoun died in central Pa., but James Patrick's widow Catherine Montgomery Calhoun and their son Patrick Calhoun (1727-1796) were among the Scotch-Irish settlers who moved on south to Va., and then on to SC. Here Catherine was scalped (Cherokees), but Patrick went on to Abbeville, SC. He marr. Martha Caldwell, they had a son John Caldwell Calhoun (1782-1850) John C. was congressman, Secretary of War, Secretary of State, SC Senator, and Vice-President under Presidents John Quincy Adams and Andrew Jackson.
His daughter Anna Calhoun Clemson inherited the plantation home, "Fort Hill", where Clemson Univ. now is. I understand it is open to visitors(?) Edith
